Throughout his campaign and the first months of his second term, President Trump has made clear he wants this war between Russia and Ukraine to end. While he became frustrated with both sides during the process, he didn't give up and instructed his team to remain steadfast in negotiating with both countries in order to find an acceptable deal. The administration has been working very hard toward this end.
For any peace deal to work, it must have the full backing of Ukraine and Europe, especially in terms of security architecture. It should further be noted that any peace deal should not reward Russia for its aggression. Otherwise, it's only incentivized to carry out further attacks in the coming years.
From the outset of the war, Ukraine has consistently supported a peace deal that is fair and respects the country's sovereignty. Ukraine will avoid making rash comments about the specifics in public but will continue to work alongside the U.S. and its European partners to ensure it gets a deal that's in the best interests of the country. It is ready for honest work to get this achieved.
While Moscow and Washington remain in contact, Russia is not able to confirm any specific consultations with respect to a peace deal. There are no new elements of a peace deal beyond what was agreed by Presidents Putin and Trump in Anchorage, Alaska earlier in the year.
