The Spin

Narrative A

Algeria had no other choice but to cut diplomatic ties with the UAE. Despite repeated warnings about the consequences, the UAE has pursued a program of hostile aggression against Algeria and its interests. Despite Algeria's patience, it could not tolerate this belligerence indefinitely, leaving this course of action as the only self-respecting move left.

Narrative B

Slamming the door shut on a country with a bigger economy and wider diplomatic reach hurts Algeria far more than it does the UAE. Real diplomacy runs on clear interests and open channels, not vague grievances and cryptic signals that leave everyone guessing. Ultimately, Algeria's grandstanding is no substitute for a tangible foreign policy vision.
