Public security demands intelligence-led policing, financial investigation and the dismantling of criminal economic structures, not the importation of counterproductive populist measures that ignore Brazil's sheer size and the complexity of its criminal organizations. Candidates pushing for Nayib Bukele-inspired megaprisons and "terrorist" labeling are merely staging tough-on-crime theater to spread fear. Brazil needs a structural approach that integrates federal, state and municipal forces, asphyxiates criminal finances and modernizes prisons while protecting civil rights.
Government-critical narrative
A government whose electoral base includes prisoners and territories controlled by organized crime lacks credibility to oppose proven, effective measures that prioritize citizen safety over criminal sympathies. Nayib Bukele transformed El Salvador from the world's most dangerous nation into one of its safest, slashing homicides through mass incarceration, territorial control and an uncompromising approach to organized crime. It's about time for Brazil to have a leader who follows suit instead of treating decisive anti-crime action as illegitimate and shielding narcoterrorists.
