The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on Tuesday announced that it recorded 17,180 laboratory-confirmed cyclosporiasis cases acquired in the United States since May 1, spanning 48 states and Washington, D.C., with 922 hospitalizations and two deaths.

The total case count rose by 1,464 from the previous week, though Michigan — the hardest-hit state with 14,277 cases — saw only a 3% increase, a sign the outbreak may be slowing.

The largest cluster was linked to recalled iceberg lettuce from Taylor Farms in central Mexico, first traced through illnesses at Taco Bell. As of Aug. 13, that outbreak had caused 9,481 cases and 398 hospitalizations across 17 states, and both deaths were tied to it.
