DOJ: UCLA Med School Illegally Used Race in Admissions

Is UCLA medical school failing due to race-based admissions or is the scandal a politically motivated hit job built on flawed data?

The Spin

Right narrative

Race-based admissions are inherently unfair. The Supreme Court agreed, and UCLA apparently responded by finding workarounds anyway. Federal funding must be on the line, because without that threat, elite institutions will keep gaming the system no matter what the Supreme Court says, rendering SFFA effectively unenforceable.

Left narrative

Disparate outcomes between racial groups don't prove illegal intent. The DOJ's findings ignore the full applicant pool and where admitted students actually enrolled, missing fundamental aspects of how a class is formed. Threatening to pull federal funding based on findings that haven't been tested in court is a political weapon being wielded before any judge has ruled.
