Version 7.18.3
A small nation paying 90% of the bill out of its own pocket to free kidnapped technicians and give brutal gangs a lesson deserves trust. Haiti's torment mirrors a nightmare that El Salvador has survived and beaten back, and this is exactly why its help is genuine. There will be no grab for land, no grab for wealth and no permanent presence, this rescue mission has clear goals.
Dropping thousands of foreign troops into a city already carved up by gangs, vigilantes, U.N. forces and private contractors, with no clear mandate or chain of command, poses a higher risk to civilians. A rescue turned revenge push can only feed the cycle that hands Haiti's future to foreign powers and war profiteers. Real security has to come from Haitian hands, not from another layer of outside occupation.
