Israel Arrests 10 Over West Bank Settler Attacks
Are these arrests reputational damage control or is this proof of the efficacy of justice?

The Facts
- The Israeli police said 10 suspects were arrested on Monday in Operation Olive Leaf, launched in the West Bank's Benjamin area following weekend attacks. Many vehicles were seized, and evidence related to the violence was reportedly found.
- An Israeli court on Monday extended the detention of six men linked to the attacks by three to four days. Rights group Yesh Din has documented more than 530 incidents of settler violence since the olive harvest began in late September.
- Israel announced the arrests Monday following international pressure over the weekend attacks. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Saturday that the U.S. had asked Israeli officials to crack down on settler violence in the West Bank.

Settler violence against Palestinians gets shrugged off year after year, yet the moment an American journalist and European diplomats are targeted, action is suddenly taken. Arrests driven by viral footage and foreign pressure amount to reputational damage control — accountability that hinges on a victim's nationality is no accountability at all.
Pro-Israel narrative
Hauling in the men who beat an unarmed reporter is the result of a functioning justice system; the fair complaint in this instance is that it took far too long. Mob attacks on journalists and diplomats deserve prosecution, no matter who carries them out. Dismissing real arrests as political theater merely excuses the next round of violence.
