The Spin

Narrative A

City agencies moved fast and kept everyone safe when this incident occurred. Over 150 responders were on scene, drones monitored the building's movement, and every worker was accounted for with zero injuries. That's exactly what a competent, coordinated emergency response looks like, and New Yorkers should feel confident that their city handled a dangerous situation the right way.

Narrative B

Steel I-beams bending like cigarettes on floors 21 through 26 is what happens when a massive conversion project skips adequate structural support. Even a union worker on site said developers failed to add sufficient steel columns to handle the load of new floors being stacked on top of the original building. Cutting corners on one of New York City's biggest office-to-residential conversions put an entire Midtown neighborhood at risk.
