Kurmuk fell because RSF and SPLM-N fighters outmaneuvered a retreating army, seizing weapons, ammunition and a strategically important border town critical to Ethiopia's supply routes. This marks another liberation step toward rebuilding Sudan on more just foundations, freeing people from an oppressive Islamist-backed military order. The army fled in disarray, further demonstrating that RSF momentum along this front is real and growing.

RSF claims of victory ring hollow when its own governors are quitting, openly denouncing the group for destroying cities and killing civilians without restraint. Defections, battlefield losses in Kordofan and still-unconfirmed Kurmuk claims point to a paramilitary force fragmenting under growing pressure on multiple fronts. The Sudanese army continues to defend Kurmuk with steadfastness, further undercutting any narrative of a decisive RSF triumph.
