Banning a world-renowned climate scholar from entering Britain is censorship. Barring authors rather than debating them is the move of a government too scared to face criticism of its own record on Palestine. Free inquiry dies fast when the Home Office decides which ideas are allowed through the airport.
Praise for the Oct. 7 massacres is not a scholarly position that earns a lecture tour, and refusing entry is ordinary border policy rather than censorship. Shouting about free speech while never quoting the words actually being defended is a dodge. Awards and book deals do not entitle a foreign national to a platform in Britain.
