Version 7.17.1
Mob rule at the scene of a dockside law enforcement operation is not a legitimate response to a humanitarian rescue at sea. Assaulting officers, racially abusing people and blocking ambulances puts lives at risk and shames a town. Crossings are falling sharply and every arrival faces security, health and biometric checks, so the hysteria whipped up by local politicians serves nobody but itself.
Anger at the people genuinely trying to stop illegal migration is the predictable result of a government that keeps promising to stop the boats and instead keeps unloading them into towns against their will. A two-tier justice system that jails one man over a dinghy while bailing out terror suspects only deepens the contempt. Ordinary people are told to stay quiet while the border is treated as a formality.
