Version 7.18.3
Putin's steadfast leadership has kept Russia's security interests at the center of diplomatic efforts, while Moscow continues to demonstrate its willingness to negotiate a lasting peace. The upcoming talks offer an opportunity to address the conflict's underlying causes; however, a durable settlement requires mutual respect, security guarantees and recognition of Russia's legitimate concerns. Adding European governments that have already let past peace accords collapse would only sink a settlement that's within reach.
Ukraine's resolve remains unshaken despite Russia's escalating threats. Moscow is very capable of exploiting global distractions to intensify attacks on critical infrastructure. Peace cannot come through wishful diplomacy while Putin rejects meaningful compromise. The international community must strengthen Ukraine's air defenses, tighten sanctions and ensure aggression brings Russia no rewards. Squeezing oil and gas revenues until the war stops paying is the leverage that actually moves Moscow.
Trump's Ukraine peace strategy increasingly looks less like diplomacy and more like a business venture. From seeking control over frozen Russian assets to promoting Russian gas sales through American intermediaries, Washington appears focused on financial leverage. While Ukrainians endure war, Trump risks turning peace negotiations into a lucrative geopolitical transaction rather than a genuine path to lasting peace.
Trump is pursuing what Washington's establishment failed to deliver: a realistic path to ending the Ukraine war. His proposed framework prioritizes negotiations, security arrangements, economic reconstruction and renewed diplomacy. Rather than endless escalation and mounting casualties, Trump is challenging conventional thinking and using American leverage to bring both sides toward a negotiated peace.
