The Spin

Right narrative

The assassination attempt of Uribe represents a dangerous escalation of political violence against opposition figures who dare to challenge armed groups that used to impose a reign of drug terror in the country not long ago, and Gustavo Petro is ultimately to blame for it. After all, the former guerrilla-turned-president has created a climate of hostility towards conservative figures with his incendiary rhetoric.

Left narrative

Colombians from across the political spectrum wish Uribe a speedy recovery and want peace to prevail over political violence, but some in the opposition apparently are willing to play politics with this tragic event for their own advantage. While they cry foul about the alleged inflammatory speeches of President Petro, they are further polarizing the country.
