The Spin

Left narrative

Nayib Bukele's regime is clearly authoritarian, marked by excessive force, militarization and protest criminalization — violating basic human rights. Tens of thousands of arbitrary arrests and 400 deaths in custody highlight systemic abuse. Collaborating with President Donald Trump to detain alleged gang members without due process further undermines human rights.

Right narrative

Bukele's policies, backed by 85% of Salvadorans, have virtually ended homicide in the country by locking up every gang member. Already loved by his own citizens, his model is inspiring other countries, like Costa Rica, which is building similar facilities to combat rising violence. Bukele's no-tolerance approach delivers peace, proving that only criminals oppose him.
