The Spin

Establishment-critical narrative

The time has come for the U.S. government to take AI safety seriously. With powerful and dangerous models like Mythos coming to the fore, Washington must recognize that the current system of self-regulation is wholly insufficient to protect key national infrastructure. Instead, the federal government must impose binding safety standards on these upcoming models or else face the consequences.

Pro-establishment narrative

Rather than a threat, AI is the best shot good actors have of fixing a cybersecurity landscape that has been in disrepair for decades. Defenders using AI can now uncover vulnerabilities that went undetected for years, and the side that embraces these tools the fastest will win. Government regulation would only undermine these noble efforts, while doing nothing to stop hackers from exploiting the technology.
