Tracking down two suspects who skipped the country and dodged voluntary interviews for years takes real grind, and that grind ended with guilty pleas and criminal records. A suspended sentence still carries a conviction, costs and the threat of custody hanging over the next year. Fame bought no shortcut and no free pass from the courts.
Smashing a bottle over a man's head twice in a crowded club, then kicking a defenseless victim on the floor, would earn immediate custody for anyone without a famous name. Dropping the Grievous Bodily Harm charges and offensive weapon charges, then knocking a third off for a guilty plea, turned a violent attack into a walk out the door past cheering fans. Three years of police work deserved a real sentence.
